Debt-ceiling deal: What’s in and what’s out of the agreement to avert US default WASHINGTON (AP) — President Joe Biden and House Speaker Kevin McCarthy have reached an agreement in principle on legislation to increase the nation’s borrowing authority and avoid a default.Negotiators are now racing to finalize the bill’s text. McCarthy said the House will vote on the legislation on Wednesday, giving the Senate time to consider it ahead of the June 5 deadline to avoid a possible default. While many details are unknown, both sides will be able to point to some victories. But some conservatives expressed early concerns that the deal doesn’t cut future deficits enough, while Democrats have been worried about proposed changes to work requirements in programs such as food stamps.A look at what’s in and out of the deal, based on what’s known so far:TWO-YEAR DEBT INCREASE, SPENDING LIMITSThe agreement would keep non-defense spending roughly flat in the 2024 fiscal year and increase it by 1% the following year, as well as provide for a two-year debt-limit increase — past th...

Real Salt Lake continues to annoy Loons in 1-1 home draw Minnesota United manager Adrian Heath expressed this week what it feels like to play against Real Salt Lake.“It’s like having a toothache,” he said Thursday. “They never go away. They hang about.”The Loons and RSL played to a 1-1 draw on Saturday night at Allianz Field. RSL stayed pesky, but it’s MNUFC’s home form that can feel like a deepening root canal. The Loons (5-5-4, 19 points) have one win in seven home games this season. Salt Lake (4-6-4, 16 points) is 5-3-6 against MNUFC all time in MLS and stayed near them in the current Western Conference standings. The Loons had trouble breaking down Salt Lake’s 4-4-2 defensive shape, and Minnesota relied on getting the ball wide and sending in 13 crosses in the first half and 20 in the match. The Loons had a few brief moments going through RSL’s defense with Franco Fragapane finding Bongi Hlongwane and Sang Bin Jeong. But in a season-long theme, the final product wasn’t good enough.Minnesota’s defensive lock was deftly picked ...
