Lawmakers push for Rosa Parks holiday WASHINGTON (NEXSTAR) – Members of Congress are pushing for the passage of a bill that would make Dec. 1 a federal holiday commemorating the arrest of Rosa Parks. Friday marks the 68th anniversary of the civil rights activist’s arrest in Montgomery, Alabama.Rep. Terri Sewell (D-AL) held a press conference with Congressional Black Caucus (CBC) Chairman, Rep. Steven Horsford (D-NV), and other CBC members on Capitol Hill Wednesday morning to discuss H.R. 308, the Rosa Parks Day Act. Man taken into custody after east Austin SWAT call AUSTIN (KXAN) -- Police said they took a man into custody Thursday afternoon after an hours-long call in east Austin that involved a SWAT response. Sgt. Destiny Silva with the Austin Police Department confirmed officers arrested a suspect after she said he would not leave a home in the 2400 block of Santa Rita Street and at one point fired a shot toward the area where the SWAT vehicle was parked. Police did not return fire, though, she said. Police initially responded at about 5:57 a.m. when someone called 911 to report a man assaulting a woman. Officers arrived about five minutes later and talked to both people. Police said it did not appear at that time there was an "imminent threat" to the community. However, the man reportedly went into a house and would not leave. Because he possibly had a gun, that's when police called SWAT to assist. Large hail stones, estimated to be the size of baseballs and softballs, were reported in Williamson County as the storm moved south to Travis County. Estimated $27M in damages to Round Rock car dealerships from Sunday night hailstorm The National Weather Service office in New Braunfels has worked to come up with the estimated cost for this hail storm. The NWS said the monetary loss numbers are difficult to calculate because insurance companies are no longer sharing their numbers with the NWS. The National Centers for Environmental Information said Texas had an estimated $700 million in insured losses during the hailstorm onslaught.
