AUSTIN (KXAN) -- On Monday, the Texas Department of Transportation announced it completed its final environmental impact statement and record of decision, clearing its last major hurdle ahead of a construction start on its Interstate 35 expansion project. The EIS is a requirement under the National Environmental Policy Act to document any potential environmental impacts that could come from a project proposal. For months, some city and regional leaders have shared reservations about the environmental implications of a highway expansion, including grassroots organization Rethink35. ICYMI: Austin’s I-35 expansion clears final hurdle before construction start "Transportation is the biggest source of carbon emissions locally. What are we doing? By widening a highway that's just going to worsen it," said Adam Greenfield, board president of Rethink35. Letters: Death threats to Trump and his son are as un-American as you can get

Threats are un-American actsRe: “Woman arrested on charges of emailing threats to shoot Trump and his son,” Aug. 22 news storyIt is appalling to me that people who call themselves American will send death threats to their fellow Americans because of their political views.People who will do that are definitely not patriotic Americans. They do not understand the meaning of the word and are unworthy of the name. They don’t know the history and the principles of our founding.James T Watson, Highlands RanchSpreading dangerous adviceIf this 82-year-old had taken the advice of a certain Colorado congresswoman, most likely I would not be alive to write this as hard as it is to see and write this letter. Telling folks not to get vaccinated or use masks kills — one way to get away with murder, in my opinion.I managed recently to run a 5K race in Evergreen. We had one friend fly in to run from out of state. It was wonderful to see her again and we carpooled to the race....

Strays is Adult Comedy, Doggie Style

Published Thu, 20 Feb 2025 19:26:21 GMT

Dog movies are usually heart-warming and delightful, but Strays is a dramatically different breed. This outlandishly vulgar satire is about as far from Marley and Me as Kansas is from Oz, with more F-bombs than any comedy you’ll see for a while. In the hands of Will Ferrell and Jamie Foxx, the genre has (literally) been unleashed, as the film follows crass pups wandering the streets, seemingly without a care in the world. Most dog movies begin with a pet getting lost and trying to find their owner, which leads to all sorts of ‘aw’-inducing moments along the way. As they gallop through golden fields, reminisce about their lives and make friends with local strays, you get a fuzzy feeling thinking about your own pets waiting for you at home. If you don’t have a pet, these movies might make you ponder the idea of buying one. Not Strays. Director Josh Greenbaum (Barb and Star Go to Vista Del Mar) follows the furry friend formula expertly with a big exception– the Border Terrier prot...
