Rockies Mailbag: My all-time Rox team and would Dick Monfort ever sell team?

Denver Post sports writer Patrick Saunders with the latest installment of his Rockies Mailbag.Pose a Rockies — or MLB — related question for the Rockies Mailbag.Who’s on your All-Rockies team — one player per position — using the criteria of your choice?— Greg, Estes ParkWow, Greg, that’s not an easy assignment and I’m sure my choice will tick off some people. But I’ll give it my best shot. And I’m so sorry, CarGo, but you didn’t make the cut. It’s Greg’s fault.• Right-hander starter: Ubaldo Jimenez. He burned out quickly, but from 2007-10 he was sensational, especially by Rockies standards.• Left-handed starter: Kyle Freeland. His 2018 season (17-7, 2.85 ERA), capped off by his gem in the wild-card game at Wrigley Field against the Cubs, was magical. He’s remained a team leader and a tough-as-nails pitcher even though he’s never come close to matching his ’18 season.• Closer: Brian Fuentes. Co...

Editorial: Democrats are working overtime to reduce taxes. No, hell hasn’t frozen over.

Published Tue, 04 Mar 2025 09:05:12 GMT

Colorado’s Democrats are officially working overtime this holiday season to … brace yourselves … lower taxes. No, hell hasn’t frozen over.Rather, Gov. Jared Polis, a Democrat, recognizes that voters trusted both Republicans and Democrats in 2020. Failure to reduce property taxes in the face of this unsustainable increase is a betrayal of that trust. He called lawmakers back for a special session to act quickly before tax bills are set for March.Three years ago, Coloradans supported Amendment B voluntarily giving up the only thing insulating Colorado homeowners from the crushing housing inflation — the Gallagher Amendment. Inflation in home prices leads to higher home values which, in turn, increase property taxes. The amendment kept property taxes low for homeowners by ratcheting down the residential assessment rate while holding the commercial assessment rate the same. Without the amendment in place, property taxes are set to increase by as much as 40% in some communities whe...

Warriors 3 Things: Draymond Green is probably going away for a while

He’s a rookie, but he has juice and a brilliant feel for the game. And aside from a second All-Star, that’s what these Warriors need as much as anything.Brandin Podziemski played like an All-Star on Tuesday. With Steph Curry sidelined, Draymond Green and Klay Thompson ejected before points were on the board, and Andrew Wiggins and Chris Paul still playing like their best basketball is behind them, the Warriors’ hopes of beating the Timberwolves were tied to Podziemski, Dario Šarić, and Moses Moody.Do you smell that? Federal judge dismisses Huntington Beach’s lawsuit against state over housing mandates

Published Tue, 04 Mar 2025 09:05:12 GMT

A federal judge has dismissed Huntington Beach’s lawsuit against the state over housing mandates, a loss for local leaders who are fighting the state’s demands for the city to plan more housing.Judge Fred W. Slaughter granted the motions to dismiss the case filed by the state and the Southern California Association of Governments. Attorney General Rob Bonta, in a statement, celebrated the judge’s decision.“We filed a motion to dismiss Huntington Beach’s federal lawsuit because we believed it was meritless. We are pleased that the court agreed,” Bonta said. “With this behind us, we look forward to prosecuting our state case against Huntington Beach. Everyone must do their part to address California’s housing crisis.”In March, the state filed its lawsuit against Huntington Beach accusing it of knowingly violating state housing laws. Hours after top state officials announced the lawsuit, the city sued the state in federal court, arguing that because Huntington Beach is a charter city i...
