A complex deal — or one that’s error-filled — may take longer.Against today’s two spades, West led the jack of diamonds: queen, king, three. East took the ace and ten, and then play slowed to the proverbial pace while he wondered what to do next. When East finally led a fourth diamond, West ruffed South’s seven, but South overruffed in dummy and led the queen of trumps. East took his ace and got his ace of hearts later, but South made his contract.THIRD TRICKEast’s defense was sluggish; after Trick Three, it was too late for him to ponder. After East takes the K-A of diamonds, he must lead a low diamond. West ruffs and shifts to a trump, and East wins and leads another trump.South draws trumps, but when he leads a heart, East takes the ace and cash...
